I make three types of work. There are Acts, Projects and Shows. Acts go to the heart of my practice and are one-off, unrepeatable, efficacy-art stunts like Sink or Sing or The Growing Act. Projects, like One Day : Day One – Resilience and AUCTION ACHTUNG!, are performative public interactions that playfully engage the audience in philosophical questions about life and the world. Shows are things that go on all sorts of stages. The Call at Theaster Gates’ Sanctum was a show, and my annual durational trilogy Tuul is a show in three parts. Ideas for Acts, Projects and Shows pour out of me everyday; I live to give them life.
